Indulgence Spa on the Caribbean was the paradise I had been waiting for. Run by Auxi- a sweet woman originally from Nicaragua, she moved here 26 years ago and calls herself “almost Tica” at this point. Ticos are the indigenous people of Costa Rica.

Loved the mixed mediums used in the creation of this space; palms, wood, tile and cement, lots of textures to ignite the senses.
Her Spa is straight out of a jungle fairy tale. The roof, completely thatched from palm leaves, creates a contrast to the stone structured walls mixed in with smooth wooden rails and a tiled floor.
I arrive here almost soaking wet from this season’s rains. But, thanks to my new designs out of plastic bags, it isn’t so bad. She offeres I take a shower to clean, and it is so needed! My legs had been drenched by puddles pedaled through.
The shower and back room is what truly takes my breath away. The bathroom is as if you walked into a cave, surrounded by vines, and with a beautiful light shining in. I felt blessed just standing here, dripping, dirty, but so happy. The stone is a dark, faded, rose color, with a waterfall showerhead and vines sticking out of makeshift pots, built right into the walls!
This is paradise, and you might miss it, unless perhaps you read this. 😉
My initial visit here is for a Brazilian wax. Which, by the price, is a suprising treat from the usual, $60 or $70 I am used to back in the States. For $29, I get the company of one of the sweetest woman I have met here, a glass of wine and a terrific wax. She feels like a mother, best friend and one of the best aestheticians I have visited.
She is meticulous in her methods; quick, yet, gentle. Basically everything a girl could ask for and more, especially when it comes to The Brazilian. She makes sure to get all the hair, and I am ever so grateful. Plus, she offers me a glass of wine, truly the way to my heart- a smooth body and some liquor for the road.
I would love to return and try out some of her other procedures, like a facial or massage. It was a lucky find to get such a quality wax in the middle of a rainforest! Plus, Auxi’s sunny outlook on life makes visiting her a real treat. It may sound weird, but if you can find the right aesthetician, its almost like therapy and a salon trip all in one. In just a short 30 minutes you can look like a baby and also have a kind of rebirthing of your soul. I feel like this when coming out of Indulgence, thank you Auxi!

If you are in a mood for a massage, alone or with your sweety, they do that too. When I was there they were offering 1-Hour Couples Massage for $99 plus a box of organic chocolates and a glass of wine.
